Animation Inspiration

Tribute to Hayao Miyazaki from dono on Vimeo.
This first video is one of my favourites as it's a tribute to one of my favourite filmmakers Hayao Miyazaki and his company, "Studio Ghibli".  I like how this video includes both 2D and 3D animation, as it really makes the front animation pop and keep the art style, and the 3d of the background allows for a lot of detail and high quality renders.

Mac 'n' Cheese from Mac 'N' Cheese on Vimeo.
This 3D animated short film is fast paced with a unique art style and the best I can describe it is that it looks remarkably like the colour and texture of clay. The music also matches the speed of the film quite well which keeps up the pace of the animation.

The Reward from The Animation Workshop on Vimeo.
The reward is one of the best short animated films i've ever seen. It is 2D animated with greatly detailed and beautiful settings and amazing character designs. The animation itself is really smooth and has great fight scenes and facial expressions.

Local Company Research

Arcus animation studios, Newcastle

Arcus studios are an animation company based in Newcastle that has a team that consists of 6 artists. Their logo is an orange airship which matches the rest of their site's colour scheme of orange, white and black. There is not just one single style to the animations at Arcus Studios which is great as it shows the range of talent that the animators have but also

Korg Animation

Korg graphic from Abbey Armstrong on Vimeo.
I made this animation for a project that included us making an advert idea for Korg. I designed 5 different designs for robots and then digitised them using Illustrator and photoshop. I also made the backgrounds in photoshop but I edited multiple images together to create the end result. After all my assets were completed I animated it in After Effects using keyframes for the first time.

CharacterPilla

Characterpilla_002 from Characterpilla on Vimeo.

CharacterPilla was my course's submission to a contest at college called the diversity awards. The project was a huge walk cycle animation that consisted of 8 frames that people could choose from and then draw their own design over it. People were allowed to create their designs using any medium of their choice so we had submissions that were created digitally, others using pens or pencils and some even included 3D objects like yarn. One of the tutors even went abroad to America to advertise our project, and because of this we recieved designs from all across the globe from all kinds of different people and of all ages.

Leon Gif

A simple 7 frame animation of the character Leon from Resident Evil 4, done using the free art program "Fire Alpaca" and Windows movie maker

Murder Mystery Gif

I recently went to a live performance of the popular podcast "Welcome to NightVale" at the Tyne theatre and opera house in Newcastle. It was such an awesome show that I was inspired to make a quick animation for it.
This picture took about an hour and a half to draw and colour in but the actual animating process only took about 10 minutes and included just 5 frames.

Space Stop Motion Animation

Space Stop Motion Animation from Abbey Armstrong on Vimeo.

This motion was created after we were given the task at college to create an animation that matched up with the music choices we were given. After hearing this particular one I related it to a space themed idea, so this papercraft space adventure was created.

The actual animation process for this piece only took about 2 hours, however the creation of the assets and putting together all 436 frames brought the time up a bit more.

Overall I am quite pleased with this animation and the project still remains one of my favourites.
